Plank - New Default Theme

Plank has been updated with a new default theme

It may change but it looks great. Though it is harder to see which application is being opened.

Looks great in both light and dark wallpapers !

Stay tune !

  1. I really don't want to start a debate on which one is more beautiful but this change is something I think is a big problem of ElementaryOS. They choose not to introduce a new theme for Plank but to completely change the current one, that has been around for years. I personally think that this is the worst theme among them all but that's beside a point. ElementaryOS team is treating the product and so the community of users and developers, like their own back pocket, never asking themselves does this last change we're thinking about make any sense or we're gonna change things around every other week. Lets remove minimize, Marlin/Files, Noise/Beatbox, Postler/Geary and so on. I'm loving the ElementaryOS from the first day but unfortunately it seems that the people deciding about it did not grow fast enough to keep up with the product life cycle. Jupiter was rock solid, Luna however is just a sandbox for kids to play in.

  2. It was totally pointless to do this.

  3. I prefer the old theme because IMO it matched well with the rest of the desktop. I'm not sure why they decided to do this change, I'm sure they must be having some sort of reason

  4. It's totally inconsistent... What were they thinking?

  5. WTF is this? This is among the worst plank themes I have ever seen. What was wrong with the previous one?

Hopefully this is not the final version.

  6. How is this inconsistent? Slingshot, popovers and granite's about dialogs all have the same whitish look. It seems that elementary designers wanted to keep color consistency between the two application launchers (slingshot and plank). There's a tighter relationship between slingshot and plank than wingpanel and plank, so this seems quite right to me to keep a color coherence between them both.

Besides, that's not a last minute decision - you can see this old mockup ( http://danrabbit.deviantart.com/gallery/35453651#/d386yvh ), where plank was white - even if slingshot was still plain black (!).

    1. What I feel is this plank theme does not maintain the balance of the Pantheon desktop we've been accustomed to.

The Wingpanel is dark to blend in with the bezel of our monitor, I think that the same premise should be applied with Plank. It would make the overall desktop environment feel more balanced and "consistent".

  7. Um here's a very random question: Is this the plank default theme, or a new plank-theme-pantheon (so a new plank theme that's default in Elementary OS)?

    1. Unfortunetly, it's the default(for now).

    2. It's an elementary theme for pantheon, which will be (if not changed) default for elementary os only.

  9. https://answers.launchpad.net/plank/+question/202564 "We haven't changed themes or done anything at all to the theming. If you see a different theme, it is because your packager changed it." We can calm down i think.

    2. That's because Plank developers are not elementary developers. The elementary designers made their own elementary theme (the white one), which is different from Plank's default theme (the one with the minimal black bar under the icons). That question should have been done in a different place - maybe here? https://answers.launchpad.net/elementary xD

  10. Right up till this point, nothing will be default unless a RC version is being released. If the developer wanted to change at last minute, they could. As I have said, anything might change :)

As for the theme, they might ship 4 themes together with the OS itself, which you can change it afterwards using switchboard appearance plug
