Eager to try it out? Follow these few steps

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:erasmo-marin/foto-daily-builds

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install foto

no dependency will be installed if you're on elementary os

The future Geary

And yes, Geary will be landing in 0.2 soon, only time will tell

As i predict, 0.2 will bring more and more fans towards Geary as some of the essential features come along

In Geary 0.1, it lacks of a few features that a normal email client has and it also have several persistent bugs such as Geary not fetching the email 

Lest looks at a few new features in the upcoming release

Notifications !  Not sure if you're same like me, I always keep my Gmail tab open in Chrome as I will be alerted with any new email notification. And now, there's no need to as Geary will handle it pretty nicely

When you receive mail, it will alert you with a pop sound and a highlighted messaging menu with number of emails unread

Not gonna miss any emails !

Rich text formatting is here ! Now you can highlight your sentences with colors, change the fonts and also alignments, pretty handy

It is not recommended for you to install from this ppa as it consist an unstable build of Shotwell as well. if you are brave enough to test the daily build of Geary, here's how

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yorba/daily-builds

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade / sudo apt-get install geary (if you have not previously install Geary)

Kernel Panic for daily users

If you are a daily user of the unstable elementary os luna, you might stumble across this error / kernel panic when you have updated your kernel to the latest 3.2.0-29

Here's how

sudo apt-get remove ulatencyd

Type the above command in your terminal and restart and select the latest kernel

Seems like ulatencyd has made the new kernel not happy enough to boot for you

The latest update will remove this from your system

Audience is now available from elementary daily build ppa

A replacement for Totem ?

And yes, the daily build has been rolled out for quite a while now

If you are eager to try it out and willing to help reporting bugs, i'd say you go for it

But beware, it is still a pre-beta build, anything could happen, things could break off and it will become nay-elementary

The daily builds are only available to i386, though unofficial amd64 are available too

All hail Typography

From previously posted in journal of elementary site, they are experimenting with the new gtk3 feature of typography

The font Raleway was chosen for the title font to provide a more clean and crisp looking interface

This feature was previously available only for testing from their testing bzr, and the outcome was amazing, a sleek yet minimal look window 

(Ubuntu should take advantage of this to sexified their UI as well)

From the recent update, looks like it has hit elementary daily ppa and here is the result

The new typography will only show up on elementary apps, however, Marlin are still with the same old look

Might be a bug

Nevertheless, well done elementary ! Things are getting sexier day by day

How to test Elementary Luna ?

Lately, there is alot of screenshots on elementary luna and it's developments. 

I'm sure loads of fans are itching to get their hands off elementary luna, the most simple, sleek and beautiful operating system that is yet to be released

But you are being warned, do not try it on your personal workstations as any damage/bugs may affect your workstation.

There are two ways to test it:

#1 Transformation script

You will need a clean install of 12.04 Pangolin Precise.

Then, download this script off from here

Make sure the script is executable by 

chmod 777 build.sh

And then, execute the script via terminal by

.build.sh

Follow the instructions available, you may remove power indicator but the icon theme has been fixed, so you should keep it

The script will actually remove all Ubuntu-related packages such as Firefox, Unity and Libreoffice

It will then add elementary daily ppa's and development ppa's to create a whole new Pantheon Session

After it has complete, enjoy testing, any bugs should be reported to elementary's official launchpad page specifically

#2 Daily builds

You can download the iso from here

Hop it into a CD or USB via unetbootin and you are ready to go !
