Gala - Window Overview

It is now official that it will be called as Window Overview than Expose

Right now there is two expose algorithm to switch to but from the video, the old one looks abit off the line probably because of bug

It is not sure if the option is available in Switchboard or otherwise it will be available in dconf instead

Video is by Tom Beckmann

Gala - Alt+Tab update

Sorry for the delay between two videos, internet maintenance

The new alt+tab animation/transition is way better than the Unity style window switcher

Looks like Gala is on the right track

Gala Window Manager

Here is the video of the new Mutter based window manager which at the moment called Gala

This window manager has been rolled out in the bzr branch which you can see from here:

lp:~tombeckmann/+junk/gala

However, it is still not stable enough to be tested as it crashes when you switch workspace

Would elementary use this window manager in replace of Compiz ?

What would happen if it is Mutter ?

And yes, it has been proposed in the elementary's blueprint to use Mutter in replace of Compiz

On the other hand, Muffin, Cinnamon Shell Window Manager is being proposed as well.

From here, a few perspective is being viewed:

Pros:
Multi-theme support (dark themes)
More stable
Smoother performance
Antialiased corners

Cons:
More testing is needed
Not much customization as compared to compiz
Less animation possible
No blur effect
Inconsistency with Metacity as fallback

As discussion is being held, what would you think of the switch over Compiz ?
