Gala : Minor Update

A minor update from the recent branch merging in Gala, now Gala windows overview will have a drop shadow

Though, shadows will only be displayed on applications which is not maximized

Gala with the revision of 206 is being pushed to elementary daily ppa which has the zoom feature.

In order to test this, update to the latest version and use the following keybindings for :

Zoom in : Super & +

Zoom out: Super & -

Gala - Expose has landed

The feature that everyone has been waiting for has landed - Expose in the latest update from elementary daily ppa

From this update, Expose is available in 2 modes, grid or natural

For grid, it arranges your windows in predetermined grid values which is consistent while natural arranges your windows much less consistent

You can set the expose on which corner to be activated from your Switchboard's Desktop Plug

You can install this plug from elementary daily ppa by

sudo apt-get install switchboard-plug-pantheon-shell

To choose from the two modes, you need dconf-editor which can be installed by

sudo apt-get install dconf-tools

And navigate to org.pantheon.desktop.gala.behavior and change window overview type from the drop down menu

Incase you found any bugs, please do not hesitate to report them at Gala launchpad

Gala - Window Overview

It is now official that it will be called as Window Overview than Expose

Right now there is two expose algorithm to switch to but from the video, the old one looks abit off the line probably because of bug

It is not sure if the option is available in Switchboard or otherwise it will be available in dconf instead

Pantheon Desktop Plug

Here is a video showcasing the new Pantheon Desktop Plug from daily ppa

It has the settings for the dock itself, Plank, wallpaper, desktop theme and shadow configuration and also hot corners settings

This plug is still in development and there might be a few bugs lingering

I have also show the Appearance plug, but I'm not sure whether it will be included in the release as Pantheon Desktop Plug is much more complete

You can try this plug by installing it from this ppa

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:elementary-os/daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install switchboard-plug-pantheon-shell 

Btw, i'm using dual monitor

Gala - Zooming

Tom Beckmann uploaded a new video showing how Gala will behave in zooming

For a project that has just started, this is a leap of improvement as features are being added to Gala for almost every few updates

Gala - Plank Intergration

Recently, the update from the daily build ppa came packed with this feature, the performance is smooth and you can see how Plank behaves when switching windows

Gala - Alt Tab Switcher with App Icon

Here is the new feature which is yet to be included to Gala nor in the trunk branch

The alt tab is being somehow "intergrated" with Plank to highlight the application icon corresponding to the app that is being highlighted through alt +tab

Gala - Hot corner configs

This is a demonstration of configuring Gala hot corners using a WIP plug, anything could be changed and it is not finalized

As we can see from the above video, it is similar to Ubuntu Tweak's Compiz hot corner setting where you can set how each corner to behave

Notice that dark-themed Pantheon Terminal? A dark variant theme is coming to elementary

Gala - A few changes

This apply to the latest Gala from elementary daily ppa with latest revision 166

- First workspace will not be closed when it is emptied to avoid confusion

- First window will not be animated when alt tabbing

Gala - Workspace Update

From the new version of Gala, a few updates or changes have been made:

1. Workspace on demand - Creates workspace as needed, which is quite similar to Gnome 3

2. Enables the user to delete workspace

3. Changes workspace as the current one has no running processes

These updates are subject to change from time to time

Gala - Alt+Tab update

Sorry for the delay between two videos, internet maintenance 

The new alt+tab animation/transition is way better than the Unity style window switcher

Looks like Gala is on the right track 

Gala Update - 10062012

New update being rolled out to the elementary daily ppa

Workspace switching now "animates" the wallpaper to move with the "flow" when you switches your workspace by Ctrl+Alt+(Left or Right) or Win+D

It seems a bit laggy/sluggish in the video, probably my graphics are not good enough

At the same time, the fullscreen bug have been fixed where previously, Wingpanel shadow is present although your application is under fullscreen mode
